Spousal and Child Support
The court may require that either or both parents pay child support based upon the nature of the divorce case. Many child support guidelines are explained in full in Florida Statutes Annotated; Chapter 61.30. In some cases, other factors may require that these support guidelines are adjusted. The reasons why child support may be ordered or modified include:
- Extraordinary medical, dental, educational or psychological expenses for the child or children
- A child who has an independent income
- The custodial parent receives both child support and spousal support
- One or both parents have seasonal variations in income or expenses
- The higher financial needs of older children
- Special needs of a family
- Shared parental arrangements
- Total assets of parents and children
- Impact of IRS dependency exemption
- Other reasons that might be considered to make an equitable child support arrangement
